Trust in our Expertise

Our recent project for the National Trust involved us in watching the tide, navigating livestock and weightlifting.

It’s not every day we work over water or on a floating pontoon, but we are used to the varying demands of different projects. In this case, repairs to Frog Firle bridge over the Cuckmere River.

The work spanned six weeks and was completed on time and on budget, requiring between two and six of our team at any one time.

With so many factors at play, the organisation had to be meticulous.

Rising and receding water levels meant that different jobs had to be prioritised at different times of the day, not least the lifting of heavy steels to the underside of the bridge from a moving base.

The selection of materials was also important given potential for water contamination. Access in and out of the land which is farmed had to be carefully managed, and we maintained clear communication with the tenant farmer and external agencies such as the Environment Agency.

The work itself included repointing, decorating and structural remedial works, and has restored the bridge for years to come.
